  Scientific forums.Net hacked
Posted by: Psinetic - 06-29-2009 04:35 PM - No Replies

Yesterday afternoon our server became under attack by a script kiddie hacker. The attack was directed here at http://www.scientificforums.net. This script kiddie has doomed several websites and forums, over 8,000 to be exact. But we were able to successfully fend off the script kiddie in a head on fight that lasted for over 30 minutes strait. We had to do alot, because most of the Script Kiddie's attacks were automated scripts, which means the script kiddie could easily spit out attack after attack. Unfortunately the script kiddie was using a simple exploit while we were upgrading our mybb versions.

The exploit, however, only works on older versions of mybb. If we had upgraded five minutes faster, the exploit would have failed. He was only out to get a message across, but failed epically. The site's were down for one day as the attack occurred in the night time for us and we just went to bed after taking the sites down. Now we have regained full control, upgraded and backed up our sites.

This script kiddie was only looking for attention, and he got it.

http://www.malwareremoval.com/forum/view...43&t=43966

We are no launching a full scale investigation against the script kiddie to stop his over 8,000 script kidde hack rampage. If you feel like joining the fight please go to the link above to see the full story.

April 8th, 2009 - Today we're announcing our new business. It is an online business based at http://www.mybbsetup.com. The site is hosted by our co-administrator William Wallace. The site is setup in place for you to have your own forums professionally setup from scratch. These forums will all be mybb format (as well as phpbb) and will be completely setup from scratch. When you make your forums, you will be given SEVERAL options to choose from; from forum templates, to design, optional professional logo, optional advertisement of psinetic.org for a discount in the overall price, as well as professional support. BE NOTED however, that we do NOT have any certifications. We are experienced in properly setting up forums and we are willing to assist anyone who requests support.

We will give you price quotes on the forums themselves after you fill out the selective forms of how you wish your forums to be setup. Currently the site is under construction, and we will not you here in this news feed IMMEDIATELY upon its completion.

  Site Store
Posted by: Psinetic - 04-08-2009 09:26 PM - No Replies

April 8th, 2009 - We now have an online store with which we will begin selling items by their respective categories (via the three forums we maintain) as well as our separate small business, which will be mentioned in our next news announcement. It hasn't been configured quite yet, but we will be making the store applicable with which-ever forum you have signed up to. If you wish to buy from the store, however, you must be a subscribed member of the respective forum that you are trying to buy the item from. For example, if you are a subscribing member of the http://www.christianityforums.net forum and are trying to buy items in the science section, you must first become a subscribing member of http://www.scientificforums.net forums in order to buy the item.

We would also like to note that logins at the store will be your normal login on your forum (please select the forum you are buying from to sign into your correct account. This store will also be based off of the forums point syste, which will be explained in another news feed later on. Please enjoy the site and please be patient as we correctly set it up and stock it.

  New Domains
Posted by: Psinetic - 04-06-2009 06:28 AM - No Replies

April 4th, 2009 - Psinetic.Org now has three more domains. They are:

http://www.scientificforums.net
http://www.christianityforums.net
http://www.ethicalhackforums.com

This is so that our forums can have their own respective domains, allowing for easier google searches (because the word "psinetic" just isn't a word everyone has in their daily vocabulary. Because we moved the forums, we had to recreate them from scratch. For now, all of the plugins are installed and the logos and themes created, we still need to edit forum settings, create the categories and forums in relation to the categories, and set up a few more plugins and we'll be well on our way.

Thanks again everyone for visiting. Also, in the near future we will be converting the main home page (http://www.psinetic.org) into complete html/css with some rather well made designs. Please be patient as we continuously work diligently on the site.

A special shout out to our co-designer and main webmaster, William Wallace. He has helped dramatically in getting this site underway and fixing several problems that have shown up here and there. Again, thank you Willox for your dedication and assistance. Thanks also to Soldier of Fortune and SkullTraill for volunteering to moderate the science forums.

  Just a News Update
Posted by: Psinetic - 04-06-2009 06:28 AM - No Replies

March 28th, 2009 - So the layout is up, we've still got a few things that are getting in our way, but for the most part, we're handling it fairly well. So far we just have a few problems we need assistance with, and it really lies along the fact that we don't know flash based editing very well.

Problem 1:
We're having trouble with this news feed you see here. The problem is that we want the news feed link to link to a page within this swf file, and not to external web page, or page at all separate from the swf file. In order to fix this we have to change the coding of our swf file for a new button and page inside the swf file. It may seem like an easy task, but it's really not for someone who doesn't know java or flash.

Problem 2:
We're trying to get the news section up and running, but we want to include rss feeds, which we are having problems of getting those to work within the scroll bar functions. If anyone can provide assistance on that, it would be greatly appreciated.

If anyone at all can assist in these problems, please, do not hesitate to contact us via the contact form on the contact page.

March 15th, 2009 - The new website layout is now up and running. There are a few things here and there that ultimately need updating of course, but for all intensive purposes, it should prove to be a rather well made design. Please take some time to look around and be aquanted with the new look.
